Until now, I've been a silent spectator in the vast arena of the internet. Blogging, as I've come to understand, is the art of creating and publishing content online - be it articles, photos, or other media. Despite being a constant digital nomad, endlessly browsing and consuming content on my computer and phone, I've never taken the plunge into creating long-form content myself.
The Journey Begins ๐ฑ
Sure, I've dipped my toes with the occasional Facebook post declaring "My first status!" or left comments on others' content. I've liberally distributed likes and reactions across platforms. But crafting something substantial, something that truly represents my thoughts and putting it out there for the world to see and judge? That was uncharted territory.
Why the Hesitation? ๐ค
Why the hesitation, you ask? It's a cocktail of reasons, really. Perhaps I never felt the burning desire to broadcast my thoughts to the world. Or maybe it was a potent mix of fear and embarrassment - fear of my words being misconstrued, taken out of context, or worse, becoming the target of ridicule. The internet, to me, was always a buffet to sample from, not a kitchen to contribute to.
The Push I Needed ๐ก
Ironically, it took a gentle push (or perhaps a friendly shove) to get me here. Credit where credit's due - this website and inaugural blog post wouldn't exist without Professor Jacob Cook and his Digital Marketing Workshop course at Harvard Business School. As part of our midterm assignment in 2025, we were tasked with creating our own websites, focusing on something we care about.
The assignment is brilliantly simple yet profound: build a basic website that matters to you. It could be a personal portfolio, a launchpad for a startup idea, or a platform for a cause close to your heart. The core idea? Apply the principles of empathy engineering we've been learning about and create a living, breathing digital artifact.
The Creation Process โฐ
As I write this, it's 1:30 AM on October 7th, 2024, with the deadline looming at 11:59 PM. But don't call it procrastination - I still have a solid 10 hours to go! These past couple of hours have been an eye-opening journey. I've discovered that digital design isn't my forte (thank goodness for user-friendly platforms like Wix!). The real challenge lies in deciding what content truly represents me and how to practice the empathy engineering Professor Cook emphasizes.
My Digital Playground ๐จ
After much deliberation, I've decided that this website, at least for now, will be my digital playground. It's a space for me to ramble about topics that fascinate me, and hopefully, a place for others to get to know me better. It's not perfect, but as our assignment reminded us - the point is to create, not to achieve perfection.
Conclusion: A New Beginning ๐
So here I am, taking my first tentative steps into the blogosphere. It's exciting, it's nerve-wracking, and it's absolutely thrilling. Who knows where this journey might lead? But one thing's for sure - I'm no longer just a consumer of the internet. I'm now a contributor, a creator, and yes, a blogger.
Welcome to my corner of the web. Let's see where this adventure takes us, shall we?
